Hexplord is a fun new app designed to encourage athletes to explore their local city, region, and country in a unique and engaging way.By linking to your Strava account, Hexplord maps out your activities on a honeycomb-like grid made up of hexagons. Each hexagon represents an area of around 5 km2 and includes any of your recorded runs, rides, hikes, and other activities that occurred within that hexagon.Start your journey with Hexplord today and see the world in a whole new way
Great question! We developed Hexplord to inspire you to explore more—different routes, new places, and beyond.
While other platforms offer similar experiences, Hexplord is designed to be easy to use and allows you to compare your explorations no matter your activity type.
Any Strava-connected athlete can use Hexplord, anywhere in the world.
There’s no complexity; no maximum grid size.
Our goal was to create a grid system with tiles that remain the same size anywhere in the world.
Grids based on latitude and longitude (e.g. tiles of 5 minutes of latitude by 5 minutes of longitude) vary in size depending on their location—tiles near the equator are larger than those near the poles.
That’s not fair for global leaderboards!
Hexagons, unlike squares, help reduce tile size variance and can cover the entire Earth (including polar regions).
Like a soccer ball, we use a few pentagons for seamless coverage—these are mostly over oceans, so you likely won’t encounter them.
Each tile covers approximately 5 km² (5.161 km², to be exact).
Each side is roughly 1.41 km long, making each hexagon about 2.82 km wide (edge to edge).
There are 98,825,150 hexagons and 12 pentagons at our chosen resolution.
Good luck collecting them all!
No worries—here’s how to fix it:
Go to the menu > Profile > Unlink Strava. This deletes your data.
Sign into your correct Strava account at www.strava.com.
Go to www.hexplord.com in the same browser and click “Connect to Strava”.
Your new data will begin syncing.
No. Hexplord only accesses activities linked to your Strava account.
Please only upload activities to Strava that you personally recorded with a GPS-enabled phone or device.
Not at the moment. Platforms like Komoot don’t currently allow us access to your activities.
We may add more platforms in the future if access becomes available.
No. Virtual platforms (like Zwift) can create fake GPS tracks, so we exclude them.
However, if you recorded an indoor session with a GPS device and labeled it accordingly in Strava, it might be included.
